When I begin a new painting and feel unsure about which colours to use, I turn inward and ask myself what kind of palette will best express the mood I want to convey. The right palette doesn’t just fill the canvas—it sets the tone, evokes emotion, and often becomes part of an artist’s visual identity.

I often work with a limited palette to create harmony. Choosing just three main colours—one dominant, one contrasting, and one to unify the composition—gives me the freedom to explore while maintaining cohesion. Instead of reaching for new tubes of paint, I mix variations from my chosen colours. Some of the most unexpected and beautiful results come from these combinations. Whether I’m working with bold primaries or soft neutrals, the most important guide is intuition. Trusting my instincts is what allows the colours to truly speak.
